Prom Perfection

Trends and Tips for the Perfect Prom Dress 2018

When I think back to my prom, or as we called them at the time balls, I remember shopping for my dress. It felt like one of the most important decisions ever at the time. I was unsure of what to get and now when I look back I love and hate that dress. Your Prom dress should be prom perfection.

It was a two-piece dress made of a top and a skirt. I’m not sure why I decided on the salmon peachy colour. It wasn’t very flattering to my skin tone. However, at the time I felt like a princess so that is all that counts. For my body shape at the time though. Along one-piece gown with delicate straps would have looked better! Heinsite is a wonderful thing though.

With prom season very close, many of you or people in your lives will be attending their very own proms soon. With this in mind, I am sharing some top tips and trends to help you look prom perfect. So before you hit the make sure to check this list out. You want to make sure you know about theΒ prom dresses that suit you.

Two Piece Dresses

Yes, strangely enough, two-piece dresses are really on trend this year (perhaps I was just ahead of the game). The tops are little more cropped in homage to the 90’s vibes that have been dominating the fashion world. Halter necks are also a great go to. I feel like there is a great selection to play with here for so many body shapes. A skirt and top to make a dress! Beautiful!

Both on the catwalk and on the high street bold floral patterns have been so on trend this year. Whether it’s a small, delicate pattern in pastels or big bold flowers in bright, daring colour. You are sure to wow in a floral number. Go of the shoulder for some extra glam. Matching floral accessories and you’ll be the belle of the ball.

The Layered Look

Being achieved by accentuating the sleeves or skirt with layers of light fabric, ruffles or frills. Great if you want a full-length gown. These accents will also pull the eyes where you want them. Great of leg conscious whilst wearing dresses. Or again if you want to draw the eye all the way down your outfit. This detail on the bottom will do that.

Body shapes and perfect prom dresses

Let’s just get stuck straight in with the best style for the best shape. This is not a have to guide. You wear whatever makes you feel prom perfect just like I did! If you’re struggling through this may help you.

Hour Glass

Big boobs. Big hips. Little waist. May sound like your dream body but to all my hourglasses out there. I know you struggle to get a dress that fits the boobs and the hips without bagging in the waist. A belted dress will be great for your perfect curves. Sinching in to show off your gorgeous curvy figure. Straps may be advised if you need the boob support. You could also try the two-piece dress. That way you can tailor each piece to the exact size you need. Completely taking the waist problem out of the equation.

A rounded body shoulder. Hips and shoulder similar width. Again, I know my beautiful apples struggle to define their bodies shapes the way they would like. Your answer is a skater dress with a cut across the midriff. That could be a seam in the right place or a belted look. A little under your boobs to raise those up and create a waist and hips. Get your pins out because you know you have legs to die for and it’s time to show them off. You could also try a light floral fabric to skim over your curves. Go for a bold sleeve and you would look sensational.

Pears and Triangles

Narrow shoulder to wide hips. Wide hips to narrow shoulders. I am going to suggest you try the two pieces again. As pears and triangles also struggle to find dresses that fit their small shoulders whilst accommodating their wider hips. Take the problem away completely and go for a two piece. You can mix and match to help accentuate where ever you want them to. Using fabrics or detailing on the dress to draw the eyes where you want them.

Who is excited about the dress season???? ME ME ME ME!!

I always find prom season so exciting. Young adults just about to start their journey to adulthood. Getting to dress up fancy is always nice. I think we should have more proms throughout life (lol yes I just want to wear a ball gown). Follow these tips though and you should be well on your way to the perfect prom outfit. I hope you have the best time.

Lots of Love,

Tahnee xxx
