Plan of Action
2020 is upon us and if you’re anything like me years are just whizzing by in a blink. It’s easy to feel as though you haven’t achieved much in a year when it’s going so fast. 2020 is a New Year and a new opportunity to make those changes you’ve wanted to. Perhaps change your career path or give your whole style an over haul? 2020 is the year for it, I mean there’s no time like the present. Why not make 2020 Your Best year yet.
Could you be potentially setting yourself up to fail? Maybe your waking up with defeated attitude? Or not taking care of your body or mind as well as you should?
Are you on the the other side of the scale? Do you exercise and eat well? Perhaps you love your job after working hard to gain your role their?
No matter your position you deserve 2020 to be your best year yet and I’ve got some tips and tricks to help with that.
We all are very aware of the benefits of exercise on the body. We also know it can have a very profound effect on your mental health. We are aware that a lot of people don’t indulge in formatted exercise but how can you become more active in your day to day life?
If your are able to, you should try to walk when you can. Why not switch out two car rides a week in favour of walking? The fresh air and just taking in your surroundings can have a very calming effect. Even if it’s only a short journey you would otherwise drive. It also helps save the environment so double win!
Now lots of people are hitting the gym and feeling good for it. Maybe this is your scene? Lots of sports centres have taster sessions available so make sure to ask at your local centre. Classes may also be available to you if your not sure what exercise would suit you best and what you want to achieve. I know lots of people struggle with confidence in the gym. If you’re trying to better yourself than make sure to exercise that middle finger to anyone who may need it! Own you and your actions and don’t let anyone stand in your way!
A brilliant exercise that you can do at home. Just some simple stretching. A great bit of movement for the morning to help alleviate aches and pains. Get you moving and awake and it’s free!! There are lots of great apps and videos on YouTube that are available for your use. So perhaps just some stretching would be a good place to start.
Now I know that there are lots of other exercises available. For example you could join a sports team. Great if your looking for exercise and friendship. You could also do a spot of swimming. Especially if you struggle with mobility then swimming can be a great outlet. Just move your body a little more and both your body and mind will thank you for it.
Food is so important to a healthy and balanced lifestyle. It can effect your moods and energy levels and should be top of your health priorities. With that in mind having a couple of healthy and tasty recipes can be really helpful.

The Importance of Water
Not staying hydrated can make your skin age quicker. With fines lines and wrinkles being more common. It also helps with delivering oxygen to organs and around your body. This is just two of the hundreds of health benefits of drinking water.
We know the importance of drinking enough water but not many of us do. Why not start by drinking a glass of water each morning? You can add fruits to the water for flavour and added vitamins. Maybe try to have a glass at each meal time. Or why not trade in a cup or two of your fizzy pop, tea or coffee for a glass of the clear stuff?
The world we live in can be so busy at times. It can be at times lonely even with people around you. Sometimes we can lose ourselves to the everyday drain. This is where mindfulness can really help.
Now, this sounds so simple and easy but it can have some great benefits for all. Mindful Breathing is simply putting your focus on your breathing. Inhale, exhale, inhale, exhale. Taking time and effort to breathe deeply and fully. It can have a very calming effect on the body and mind. Mainly because a busy mind won’t focus. Mindful breathing can give your brain the reboot it needed anywhere at any time! Great for those who suffer anxiety or have troubles being in crowds. It also is just a very relaxing activity and only takes a minute or two. So why not try mindful breathing for 2020?
Shutting off and shutting out. Emptying one’s mind from all outside forces and just being! Essentially the long form of Mindful breathing. However, so reaffirming and can really centre you if you’re not feeling yourself. Sometimes the world just needs to be peaceful so create that moment for yourself. If you find it hard to ‘clear your mind you can practice the mindful breathing to help.
Being Kind to Yourself
Its been a hard day. The kids didn’t stop fighting and the baby didn’t stop crying (just describing my life there lol). It’s the end of the day and the house looks no better than it did yesterday and you’ve cleaned so much!! Work was too much today as you know you handed in that work they’re saying they don’t have! Did someone seriously steal my lunch again and to top it off you were late all week due to the road works! Please take lots of little moments to take care of yourself. Grab yourself an extra coffee. Buy yourself that blanket so you can bundle up this weekend and not move. Heck send the kids to grandma for a night if you’re able. Curl up for a half hour read and have a cuppa! Self care isn’t always buying yourself gifts, or lavish holidays and meals. Sometimes it’s being ok that the washing didn’t get done and you didn’t get to shower. It’s allowing yourself to be imperfectly human. Which we all are so be imperfectly you and take good care of yourself!
When/Where to seek help? – All these tips are great but I also understand that for some their problems are an actual illness’. For you loves self care starts with knowing you’re not alone! Your not weird or abnormal. Sometimes life does throw to much at us and you may be sick of hearing “God only gives you what you can carry”? If this is you then please know there is lots of help available no matter your circumstances. There are great organisations such as Refuge who can help if you’re struggling with domestic violence or Mankind for men struggling with domestic violence. You’re a worth more than what you’re having to deal with. I know it can take a lot of courage but you have it already. Look at what you’re dealing with!!
For those suffering with mental health problems again you could have a chat your GP. Many I know find this a pointless task but if you haven’t been given the correct help go back! Sometimes the first treatment isn’t right and something different is needed. Your Doctor should fully understands this and if they don’t ask for a second opinion. If you need some immediate help please contact Samaritans as they have lots of resources and help available. Please what ever you do don’t leave yourself to struggle. I know it can be hard, hurtful and even embarrassing for some but this is not you! It’s an illness and you deserve to feel better (xxxxxxxx).

• Make breakfast ahead of time. You can use the egg muffin cup recipe above with a side of wholemeal toast. Or even the overnight oats. Breakfast done in two minutes saving you time in the mornings.
•Meals plans will save you loads of time when it comes to shopping. Also saves time having to decide what’s for dinner each night. This doesn’t include the monetary savings you gain from meal plan food shopping.
•Homework/School boxes are a great idea. The kids can drop off letters or homework when they arrive home. Giving you time to go through it and never have the kids say “it’s due tomorrow”.
